$101m sculpture was top buy at Sotheby’s in 2014

SECOND: Amedeo Modigliani’s Tête sold for $70,725,000 at an Impressionist & Modern Art Evening sale, New York November 3. 

THIRD: Vincent Van Gogh’s Still life, Vase with Daisies and Poppies sold for $61,765,000 at an Impressionist & Modern Art Evening sale, November, New York 4. 

FOURTH: Claude Monet’s Nymphéas sold for $54,071,001 at an Impressionist & Modern Art Evening sale, June, London 5. 

FIFTH: JWM Turner’s Rome, from Mount Aventine, sold for $47,430,454 at an Old Master & British Paintings Evening sale, December, London 6. 

SIXTH: Francis Bacon’s Three Studies for Portrait of George Dyer sold for $45,400,274 at a Contemporary Art Evening auction, June, London 7. 

SEVENTH: Mark Rothko’s No. 21 (Red, Brown, Black and Orange) sold for $44,965,000 at a Contemporary Art Evening auction, New York November 8. 

EIGHTH: Georgia O'Keeffe’s Jimson Weed sold for $44,405,000 at an American Art auction November, New York.   

NINTH: Mark Rothko’s Untitled from the Collection of Mrs Paul Mellon sold for $39,925,000 at the Masterworks auction, New York November 10. 

TENTH: Mark Rothko’s Untitled (Yellow, Orange, Yellow, Light Orange) from the Collection of Mrs Paul Mellon sold for $36,565,000 at the Masterworks auction, New York, November 10.
