British audio pioneers Bowers & Wilkins have unveiled a surround system for BMW’s new series which is said to redefine what is possible for sound quality within a car.
The new system was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which is currently underway in the German city.
Designed exclusively for the all-new BMW 7 Series, the Diamond Surround Sound System is said to be the first of its kind: an audio system featuring advanced acoustic technologies never before seen in a commercial car, including diamond dome tweeters.
A hallmark of Bowers & Wilkins class-leading 800 Series Diamond range of loudspeakers, diamonds are said to be the ideal tweeter material, offering the perfect combination of lightness and rigidity to deliver crystal clear, lifelike treble for a truly revelatory audio experience.
From the outset, engineering teams from both BMW and Bowers & Wilkins joined forces to create an audio system that works in harmony with the car’s luxurious interior architecture, with every speaker in its optimum position for acoustics. The singular goal was to produce an audio experience that feels as though you are there with the artist in the studio.
The Diamond Surround Sound System also utilises acoustic technology to match the all-new BMW 7 Series aesthetically. The thin, yet rigid stainless steel speaker grilles feature acoustically optimised Fibonacci patterned holes that not only allow more sound to pass through, but also blend into the luxurious interior.
The Diamond Surround Sound System features other Bowers & Wilkins core transducer technologies in the form of Kevlar midrange drive units and Rohacell bass drivers.
The tweeters also benefit from Nautilus spiral diffusers, a technology derived from Bowers & Wilkins iconic Nautilus loudspeaker. This innovative technology ensures that unwanted sound never reaches the ears of the listener.
The result is that the carefully, finely tuned located 16-speaker system delivers breathtakingly realistic, enveloping sound no matter where in the car you are seated, according to the manufacturer.
The Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System is exclusively available as a premium option with the all-new BMW 7 Series.
