With the winter season now upon us, a luxury resort in the UAE is offering adventure-seeking travellers the thrill on discovering the desert on horseback.
The Equestrian package, from Al Maha, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort & Spa, is now available and runs until the end of May next year.
The resort, which is set in a luxuriant palm oasis, deep within Dubai’s dune and desert landscape, says the package offers “an adrenaline rushing way to explore the infinite beauty of the desert”.
“Walking through the pristine Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve land is beautiful, peaceful and always memorable, but when riding a horse, the experience is something more,” says a spokesman for the resort.
Guests can take advantage of the hotel’s location by putting the horse through its paces or gently trotting through the landscape.
Suitable for all abilities from beginner to advanced level, Al Maha has a selection of 14 horses, and is privileged to have been gifted some former endurance horses, as well as hardy and surefooted pure-bred Arabians from a few of the prominent and leading stables in Dubai.
Professional field guides accompany guests on one hour-long rides allowing them to take in the desert experience as well as seeing the picturesque desert sites.
The new package includes:
• Two horse rides (morning and afternoon); each time on a different horse.
• Both rides will be one hour long, depending on time of year and climate.
• Option to wash down the horses afterwards.
• Visit to the falconry mews.
• Full day access to main pool and spa.
• Lunch inclusive of soft drinks, water, coffee and tea.
• Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve entrance fee.
Other activities that guests can enjoy during their stay are wildlife drives or nature walks through the desert.
For a thrilling experience outside the Al Maha reserve, a four-wheel drive Desert Safari can be arranged.
