Super Show

Every year, around 120 superyachts exhibit in Monaco with about 580 exhibitors exclusively from the luxury yachting industry taking part. The show this year aims to enhance the visit experience for the new generation of clients

With more than four months still to go before this year’s edition of the most-awaited superyacht event, the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) is already creating huge ripples in the industry.

Top superyacht builders are preparing to showcase their wonder vessels to highly discerning clients from across the world, even as the organisers are readying to provide a superior experience for the show visitors.

The Monaco Yacht Show is presenting a new layout for the floating exhibition that will unveil an outstanding fleet of 120 superyachts.

From September 26 to 29, visitors will find an exhibition fully dedicated to the superyacht lifestyle. “This will be the 28th edition and we’re proud the Monaco Yacht Show delivers the pinnacle of the superyacht industry every year. With the support and trust of the show’s long-standing exhibitors, we aim at enhancing the greatest visit experience for the new generation of clients,” says Gaëlle Tallarida, Managing Director of Monaco Yacht Show.

Visitors will find a new setting for the afloat exhibition: the majority of top superyacht builders, the leading yacht designers and brokerage houses will exhibit on the quays, in front of their superyachts on display.

Under the wide air-conditioned tents, visitors will meet the exhibitors specialising in service and nautical suppliers for luxury yachts. Two exhibition zones will again be dedicated to luxury tenders, accessories and nautical leisure goods. With the Car Deck, the MYS prestige car exhibition, and the Starboard, lounge-exhibition, the show will be fully dedicated to the superyacht lifestyle, she says.

Speaking on the key features of the show, she continues: “Every year, around 120 superyachts exhibit in Monaco with circa 580 exhibitors exclusively from the luxury yachting industry. Considering the high-end quality of the products and services on display, future yacht owners can meet all companies that will build their luxury vessels from A to Z. This is unique and makes the MYS a not-to-be-missed event.”

On the superyachts that will be unveiled in Monaco, she says: “We’ll start communicating the list of launches on exhibit from July. Still, the fleet of 120 vessels is never the same from one edition to another. Around 40 new deliveries, presented by the shipyards, will make their world debuts at the MYS.”

The exhibition draws quite a keen interest from the Middle East and a number of leading companies take part in MYS every year. Already, Greenline Yacht Interiors, which provides expert design development support to world-renowned designers, has confirmed participation.

“They are a long-standing exhibitor so we’re proud to have them back again. We’ll surely confirm the participation of a few other Middle Eastern companies in the coming weeks,” says Tallarida.

Last year’s show attracted 36,400 participants, about eight per cent more than the previous year’s.

A high percentage of megayachts are owned by Middle Eastern clients, she adds. “While we don’t quantify how many private visitors from the region attend the Monaco Yacht Show (for confidential reasons), they are clearly at the MYS to visit some of the largest vessels of the year,” she says.

The yacht industry has seen huge changes in the past years, with the changing demographics of the clientele. “The new generation of owners is not only interested in having the largest yacht, they are also more involved in the building process of their future yacht and are more interested in the leisure activities offered on board and the trendiest toys they can have. This makes the MYS even more attractive to them!”

So what draws so many people from across the world to MYS? The Monaco Yacht Show is the only show devoted to superyachting, which means vessels from 25 metres in length to 100+ metres in length. The development of the tenders and water toys exhibitions is significant of what these giants of the seas can offer on board. Besides, the MYS is becoming a world business hub with superyachting in the backdrop: the social elites meet up in Monaco also to discuss other businesses than yachting. The MYS is an amazing business network platform, continues Tallarida.

She says the Car Deck, the MYS’ luxury motoring exhibit launched at the 2016 year’s edition, will continue this year too and about ten refined and high-performance vehicles will be on display. The car exhibition is set inside the Monaco Yacht Show, alongside the show’s superyacht lifestyle activities with the Starboard lounge-exhibition and the Tenders & Toys area.

The Monaco Yacht Show also organises the Monaco Yacht Summit. “This new yearly rendezvous is made for individuals really interested in experiencing superyachting but don’t know how. The summit will enable one-to-one conversations with a panel of experts from a wide spectrum of yachting activities: brokerage, builders, crew, designers or legal advisors. Our challenge is to provide bespoke and pragmatic answers to any personal request by future charterers or purchasers,” adds Tallarida.
