Healing Body, Mind and Soul

The magnificent exterior of the new King Hamad American Mission Hospital will make you wonder if you are entering a health facility or a five-star hotel.

The blue cool façade rising to five storeys against an uncrowded skyline, the X shape that determines the character of the structure and the surrounding gardens that embody the all-round wellness theme – are just awe-inspiring.

If you are amazed at the exterior, you are in for some surprises inside.

The spacious interiors are aimed at creating a unique healing environment. The expansive lobby on each floor with its ‘Tree of Life’ motif chandeliers and soothing lights, the futuristic designs of the reception desks, the spacious lounges and cafes and the views of the gardens are breathtaking and soothing to the soul at the same time. There is also an exclusive relaxation lounge for staff.

The 125 patient rooms come in different sizes and equipped with the latest and ultra-modern facilities. Each one of them has garden or city views with floor-to-ceiling windows fitted with glass that prevents solar heat gain and helps keep the rooms cool. There are six Royal Suites that come with superior facilities, extra space and separate rooms for attending relatives. One of the Royal Suites is a few notches more luxurious than the others and comes with a maid’s room.

The numbers too are impressive – 65 outpatient suites, eight ICU beds, 18 neonatal ICUs, 25 Emergency Room beds, two hyperbaric therapy units, an underground carpark for 500 vehicles and many more…

Much thought has gone into providing green space around the hospital. It has about 14,000 sq m of greenery with five themed gardens including a children’s garden, meditation garden, relaxation garden, dining garden, and water garden. There are also roof-gardens at two levels of the building.

Where is the water for all this? No issues. While digging for the foundation, sweet water gushed out and the spring is now used for gardening and there is a reverse osmosis (RO) plant too at the facility.

If you fear you will get lost in the large, complex building, stay calm. They have a modern signage system across the hospital that takes care of this and a way-finding app.

In addition, you are sure to cross path with Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and robots that criss-cross the hospital delivering meals to patients and various other items to staff.

Yes, no one wishes to go to a hospital. But if one has to, KHAMH aims to give you the best in treating your body and mind. The hospital, designed for the future, is set to become a benchmark in healthcare building and facilities in the years to come.
