ADIBS to Make a Splash

An impressive range of boats, yachts, and marine related products from around the globe will be on display to maritime leisure seekers at the upcoming Abu Dhabi International Boat Show (ADIBS), even as the UAE capital sails strong on its journey to become a major destination for the global superyachting industry.

The fourth edition of ADIBS, the UAE capital’s prestige boating, leisure marine and fishing show, organised by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (Adnec), will take place at Adnec’s brand new Marina Hall and on the water at Adnec’s purpose-built marina space from November 24 to 27.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the show will bring together the world’s best brands and industry specialists. It will offer an ideal platform for leisure marine companies to exhibit, discuss business and find partnerships to help boost the growth of the marine sector in the region, say the organisers.

Organised just four days after the iconic Abu Dhabi F1 season finale, the event offers visitors a compelling reason to extend their trip. Visitors will have the chance to view the latest technologies in the world of boats, yachts, and maritime products, such as fishing and watersports equipment. They will also be able to enjoy maritime heritage shows, a variety of water sports events, and a range of fun and unique experiences in a luxurious setting.

As one of the most prominent events in Abu Dhabi and the UAE, ADIBS has always attracted a large number of visitors from the UAE, the GCC, and the world. The 2021 edition of the event saw more than 354 brands participating from 28 countries, including local and international companies specialising in yachts and their supplies, fishing, watersports, maritime tourism and entertainment, and more.

With more than 42,000 square meters of space utilised for the 2021 event, and a 25% increase in new products and innovations, ADIBS once again raised the bar, with the 2022 event set to deliver unforgettable experiences for visitors and exhibitors.

ADIBS has entered into a three-year sponsorship agreement with Abu Dhabi Maritime to support the event’s upcoming editions.

Captain Saif Al Mheiri, Managing Director, Abu Dhabi Maritime, comments: “As the custodian of Abu Dhabi’s waterways, we are committed to raising the profile of Abu Dhabi as a leading global maritime capital. This sponsorship agreement with Adnec for ADIBS supports our endeavours, and we look forward to showcasing the incredible opportunities and potential that Abu Dhabi has to offer as an international maritime destination to the global and local community.”

Meanwhile, a report entitled ‘New Winter Oasis for Maritime Luxury Experience – Abu Dhabi’s Quest to Become a Global Superyacht Destination’, published by Abu Dhabi Maritime (AD Maritime), custodian of the emirate’s waterways and part of AD Ports Group, Abu Dhabi has achieved a number of important milestones that superyacht owners consider when selecting their destinations.

The whitepaper was launched at Monaco Yacht Show, the annual international trade show dedicated to the world of superyachts.

After extensive consultation with industry experts, the report identified four key criteria that give Abu Dhabi significant comparative advantages, including: favourable seasonal weather and sea conditions; advanced maritime infrastructure and related services; established legal and regulatory environment; and world-class attractions incorporating social, cultural, and entertainment elements.

Experts interviewed suggested that the rise in superyacht ownership over the last decade, underpinned by the changing nationality profiles of owners, especially those based in Asia and the Middle East, has encouraged individuals and companies to look beyond typical destinations. Furthermore, the geostrategic location of Abu Dhabi coupled with its natural abundance of pristine waterways and islands has helped to raise its profile among these new owners.
